Wasdale Yurt, Wasdale
Wasdale Road, Cumbria, England
Who could resist staying in the most luxurious yurt in a peaceful Lakes valley, run by the loveliest people? Take the track down to the 18th-century farmhouse where Debbie, John and the boys live; you’ll get a great welcome. Close by, in the paddock on the hill, is a decked platform on which your summertime yurt sits, its window deftly positioned to take in the view - up the valley to the highest peak in England (Scafell). The scenery is stunning: it’s walkers’ heaven. There’s storage underneath to keep things safe and dry, and electricity for iPod and kettle. As for the yurt - fat, circular and white – its interior holds a huge surprise, so enter the world of the Arabian Nights... the lovely ash frame is lined with organic wool, the sun dances on the walls, there are rich reds, shining golden lamps, sheepskin rugs, a toasty wood-burner, an oriental tea pot, a basket of logs. The centrally placed double bed takes pride of place - look up through the roof crown and catch the stars. Outdoor decking, seating and barbecuing are yours and it’s a scamper down to the farmhouse for breakfast - home eggs, homemade bread, John’s Dad’s honey - at at your own table in your own dining room. A rustic little wash house with super shower room is close by, and there’s a campsite kitchen in the farmhouse. And those views!
