Lower Coombe Royal, The Garden Rooms & Coach House, Kingsbridge
Devon, England
Discover rhododendrons and camellias from as far back as 1840 in the ‘American’ garden; tumble up treehouses and rope swings in the wilderness; nose around the Victorian greenhouse. Susi and Paul are passionate about their eight-acre restoration project, here in a beautiful corner of Devon, and already have a Gold Green Tourism Business Scheme Award under their belt. You reach your Garden Rooms via steps up to a private Italianate terrace, long, south-facing, wisteria-clad - perfect for summer snoozes and sundowners. Double doors swing open to an open-plan living and dining area with solid oak floors, bergère sofa, wood-burning stove and smart cream kitchen. On the same floor is the bedroom, its fabulous big bed clad in cream organic cotton; French windows feed back onto the terrace, while underfloor heating, fluffy cream towels and posh organic smellies cosset you in the neat little bathroom. Future green plans include a freshwater swimming pond, hydro-power and solar heating - and the welcome box includes Paul’s homemade bread.
