Station Officer’s House, Nr Kingsbridge
Devon, England
It’s the most southerly house in Devon and the views are stupendous, soaring over the jewel-green countryside to the sea. At the end of a modest row of red brick cottages, the coastguard’s lookout is the grandest house by far. A surprisingly sheltered garden, with seating to catch the sun, slopes down to the coastal path, then it’s just a field and a few sheep between you and the rocky shore. Inside, all is gleaming new and tremendously elegant: a kitchen with granite worktops, a Smeg cooker, the best cookware; a cosy sitting room with beanbags, leather sofas, a wood-burner, and wood panelling recycled from a railway ticket office. Double doors lead to a quirky dining room with wooden floors, forest-green walls and a great big elm table - spot on for the kind of hearty suppers that follow blustery walks. Bedrooms are full of light and beautifully furnished: a contemporary walnut four-poster, oak floors and huge windows in the master, and white iron beds (with fish-themed duvets for young ones) and fresh flowers in others. And, on the top floor, an extra space for reading or relaxing, with a boat bed for a little one. The village of East Prawle is only a mile away - a shop, a café and Devon’s most southerly pub. It’s 100 yards to swimming off rocks, a 20-minute walk to a sandy cove and Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth are very close. Wonderful.
AVAILABILITY The house is now fully booked until 21st September 2008 Note: The information on the Owner's Notice board has been written by the owner or management of Station Officer’s House and is not verified or endorsed by ASP.
