Court Llaca Barn, Court Llaca, Longtown, Herefordshire, England
Romilly and Perpetua have two dogs, two cats, six free-range hens, one bungalow and a newly refurbished barn (the barn is yours). There are ponies, too. They all live in harmony in a gorgeous valley at the end of a bumpy track, with a river at the bottom full of trout. It's a wow of a barn, its lofty ground floor reached through large glass doors where aged oak beams arch across a vaulted ceiling cathedral-style. It's a superbly sympathetic restoration, a wonderful mix of exposed stone, cream-white walls and heated stone flagged floors, topped in the sitting room by two squashy sofas, a wood-burning stove, a colourful rug and a flat-screen TV. The dining area is to the side; the subtly lit and well-equipped galley kitchen is beyond that. Equally lovely is the double bedroom, all cream stone walls and original slit windows in wooden lintels, its new oak bed sheathed in white linen. Fresh flowers and silken curtains add a personal touch. Up the stairs is a carpeted twin with a velux window under the roof; back down again is the little single, reached via a doorway outside, tucked behind the sitting area's wall. There are patio areas with uninterrupted views, pasture meadows, and walks in every direction. The peace is profound.
