Mill Lodge, Middle Mill, Solva, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Over an old stone bridge, through a gate that opens on your approach, you arrive at this pretty cluster of buildings known as Middle Mill. You live in the converted cattle byre and have access, through orchard and gardens, to the river Solva and its teeming trout. (If you wish to fish you need a license). Your L-shaped, open plan, holiday home, full of windows and patio doors, is flooded with light - and as you dine outside on a balmy evening, lulled by the music of millstream and birds, you'll fall in love with the tranquillity and the views. Inside is a large sitting/dining area painted a soft yellow, a new pine dining table with a welcome bowl of fruit, wooden floors, books, jolly rugs and a comfy sofa and chairs in front of a log-effect wood-burner. To the right is a galley-like kitchen, beautifully equipped and well lit. Bedrooms are carpeted, fresh and new - one on the ground floor has a proper wet room for those who don't like stairs - bathrooms have top quality fixtures and fittings and fluffy towels, and all is spotlessly clean and well laid-out. Such peace - yet you are within striking distance of good shops and eating places and all the joys of the coast.
The Corn Loft (sleeps 2) is next door.
