Skylark Cottage, 47 Park Road, Blockley, Gloucestershire, England
Hikers, birdwatchers and peace-seekers will love this - a terraced Cotswold stone cottage on the edge of Blockley, surrounded by woodland and fields. So bring your walking boots and tramp the trails. The old silk workers' house has had a crisp and contemporary renovation. Oak beams, exposed stone walls and limestone-flagged floors will please you, while the bedrooms are peaceful and cosy (the twin has Victorian-style, metal-frame beds). Watch village cricket from the double; lap up views of the Northwick Park Estate from the twin. In the neat, new, Shaker-style kitchen, a tea tray, delicious cake and flowers welcome you on arrival. Then it's down a steep staircase - with stair gate at the top - to the living room, whose large ceiling-to-floor window bathes the space in light and gives glorious views out to the hills, while French windows open to a patio in summer – a special spot to sit and relax over morning coffee, or enjoy a barbecue. Bring the binoculars: you might just spot a skylark! You are within easy reach of Cotswold towns and National Trust houses - a great site.
