Cilcain, Mathry, Pembrokeshire, Wales
A big house in a sleepy village, perfect for families. You are half way between Fishguard and St David's, both bustling with shops, restaurants and galleries, but this little spot is quiet with the coastal path near by - and a beautiful walk through woodland to a wide pebbly beach for picnics. Walk straight in to a large, light hall with a smooth parquet floor. A corridor leads to a kitchen with bright blue and yellow tiles, a smart Smeg cooker, art on the walls and huge fridge; for those who love to cook it's heaven-sent. There's a darkwood round table in the dining room with an open fire, and a vast sitting room with wall-to-wall windows overlooking the oft-turbulent sea: three large sofas, a roaring wood-burner, lots of books and exposed stone walls. Grown-up bedrooms are groovy, with comfortable beds and colourful rugs; the master suite is enormous and you could dance a polka in its bathroom. Downstairs is the best children's room ever: toys, games, pictures, books, PlayStation and puzzles! The garden is equipped with football nets, a barbecue and an outhouse for wet days; there's even a children's treasure hunt for when you arrive. Expect a bottle of wine, too, fresh bread, local butter, Welsh cakes and the fires ready to burn away.
