Woodpiece Cottage

Woodpiece Cottage, Northampton Way, Wadenhoe Oundle, Northamptonshire, England

Plunge into rural tranquillity in this secluded cottage, surrounded by fields of sheep and the owners' organic farm. Given the bucolic setting you might expect an old peasant dwelling, but your brick and slate home is crisp and modern inside with a clean, uncluttered design and a comtemporary décor. Natural light floods the spacious living room, revealing polished oak floors, modern wood-burner and bright red futon against warm cream walls. The kitchen is more country-style, with a gleaming Rayburn to please romantics, and an electric oven, too. Eat here around the elegant oak table or fling open the doors to the garden, with newly planted herbs and young fruit trees; beyond that, fields and rolling countryside. A hand-made wooden staircase winds up to the bedrooms, as light, airy and uncluttered as the rest, and furnished with solid wooden beds. You can buy meat from the owners (they keep rare-breed sheep and cattle), or feel free to pop over for advice on what to visit: the quaintest churches, the cosiest village pubs. The unspoilt surroundings are a magnet for wildlife, so take binoculars on your walks - you may spot rare red kites, buzzards and falcons. Unfettered peace, 20 minutes from the A1!
