Smallshaw Farm Cottages

Smallshaw Farm Cottages, Hollin Lane, Millhouse Green, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England

A super spot for anybody, right on the edge of the hearty Peaks. It's deeply rural yet Bakewell and Buxton are an easy drive - for literary and music festivals, antique fairs and Georgian architecture. Jim and Mary have done a grand job converting Rowan Cottage, a listed milking parlour: the sitting room is light and bright, the ceiling zooms up into the beamed eaves and an open wooden staircase leads to the first floor. The sitting room is carpeted, the walls are a calming neutral colour with just one picked out in a warm deep red, sofas are of the completely squishy variety, views are glorious from big windows and there are games, books, magazines and DVDs to keep restless folk happy on rainy days. Bedrooms are cosy and modern with pretty rafters and some exposed stone walls; soft woollen rugs rest on feathery beds; there are deep-set windows and more heavenly views. An upstairs bathroom is powerfully showered, beautifully tiled and pristine; there's also a wet room downstairs. The sort of kitchen you wish you had yourself is filled with all you need to create a leisurely supper round the farmhouse table, or picnic outside by the cute barbecue hut. And there's a hot tub (shared with other cottages) under the stars for later, and aromatherapy on offer as well. Lovely.

Birch and Bramble Cottages also available.
