The Linhay, Moyles Farm, St Minver, Wadebridge, Cornwall, England
Surfers' Paradise... you are minutes from a morning surf at Polzeath, an afternoon sail off Rock and a seafood gastro-supper in Padstow. This former cart shed has reinvented itself as a gleaming, 'Scandinavian' studio – a brilliant retreat for two. Open to the eaves, the white-walled, split-level space is warmed by wood-burner and softened by mammoth sofas and cheery cushions. With the air of an upmarket beach hut, the oak-floored kitchen has stripy-curtained, tongue and groove cupboards, local Delabole slate surfaces and plenty of stainless steel; tucked away, the ample bed is decked in stripy peacock-blue and crisp white cotton. Drench off the salty sea in a chunky-tiled, minimalist shower room, then, happily weary from all that gusty air, grab a beer from the oversized fridge and pad out into garden, settling on a hewn bench to watch the sun dip over the fields. If you can move no further, treat yourself to a meal (locally produced, all homemade) from the freezer. Nearby owners Amanda and Mark are always happy to help. From Port Isaac and Port Quinn to Trevose Head and Tintagel, the southwest coastal path beckons, as does the surf capital of Newquay. Tomorrow is another day.
