Start Bay Lookout, 4 Prospect House, Kingsbridge, Devon, England
Down, down, down narrow Devon lanes, hedges high as skyscrapers, bursting with wild flowers. Then, suddenly the sea, and gleaming, whitewashed Prospect House clinging to the clifftop. Views are sensational – south to Start Point Lighthouse, north to Dartmouth and beyond. Once you've dragged yourself away from the view, step through French windows into the light airy apartment, where designer Paul has mixed contemporary chic – Ralph Lauren cushions, galvanised lockers – with New England styling and added a cheeky nautical twist. The open-plan kitchen has hand-painted Shaker-style cupboards and all mod cons. Dine at the glass-topped table and look out to sea; even better, al fresco on the sun terrace. Flop on the squishy sofa in front of the wall-mounted TV – or gaze out at the sea. Bedrooms are white walled with white enamel beds, sprung mattresses and Lexington bed linen and cushions; there are even Famous Five books for those planning adventures. Bathrooms have gleaming Laufen sinks, power showers and organic smellies. There's more outdoors: a rear terrace for afternoon sun, a shared tennis court and heated pool, the South West Coast Path passing right by, North Hallsands beach a five-minute walk, and Beesands a 20-minute yomp. Bliss!
