The Coach House

The Coach House, Little Fountains, Wells, Somerset, England

Take a glass of wine to your private courtyard and absorb the peace. Or picnic in the particularly lovely garden: your hosts are so easy-going that you may share theirs. In the hamlet of Dulcote, a mile from Wells, this newly converted coach house is perfect for a family of four or a couple who want masses of space and light. It's neat, tidy and contemporary with a black and white theme playing downstairs: pristine walls, zebra-striped sofa, white kitchen units with granite-style tops. Big new windows draw in the light, a pine dresser spills books, videos and games, colourful local art beautifies the walls. And the best views are upstairs, over the garden to the rolling Mendips. Flanking a spotless white shower room are two fresh, carpeted bedrooms with sloping white ceilings, pine chests, a linen hanging cupboard, a sofa in the double (from which you can just about spot Wells Cathedral), a velux window in the twin. And then there's Karen, delighted to shop for you before you arrive, though the cupboard of basics (oil, herbs etc), shared with guests before and after you, can be enough to get you started. Warm, calm and cosy – and you can B&B here too.

Children over 12 welcome.
