Ollerbrook Cottages

Ollerbrook Cottages, Middle Ollerbrook House, Edale, Derbyshire, England

Tucked into the vale of Edale in wonderful seclusion, these stone cottages combine original charm with a fresh, contemporary style. Come for rest and relaxation, or lace up your walking boots, pack up you rucksack and grab a map. Walks onto the Derbyshire peaks – Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, to name but two – start from the doors of these cottages. Inside, beamed ceilings, exposed stone walls, deep-set windows and log fires add a reassuring solidity; thick towels in the sparkling bathrooms help ease tired limbs after a day's walking; and little touches – fresh flowers, hand-painted shutters, an oriental vase – make it homely. Furnishings are stylish – squishy sofas, brass bedsteads, white linen, plump cushions, colourful pictures. Downstairs areas are open plan with sleek, modern kitchens, and upstairs bedrooms, though smallish, have breezy colours and great views. Climb the hills (this is the start of The Pennine Way), marvel at nearby Chatsworth House, potter about charming Bakewell or Buxton. Or doze over a book and glass of wine in the cottage garden – the kids can run about in the paddock – and soak up those views. There are good traditional pubs in the nearby village too.
