Mill House Cottages, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, England
Whether you're hearty hikers or a romantic couple planning to hunker down in front of the wood-burning stove, this is a special get-away-from-it-all place. The setting is the stunning Lune Valley, 'twixt the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, and yet, incredibly, given the solitude and tranquillity, just seven miles from the M6. These three former textile workers' cottages have been carefully renovated and simply, freshly and immaculately furnished by Sue and Richard with plenty of creature comforts - from wonderfully squishy sofas to a pay-as-you-go mobile phone and every conceivable mod con. On a practical note, wet walkers will appreciate the drying room for soggy kit – and, at the end of the day, the large and comfortable beds. There are glorious walks in the surrounding fells with sheep and red deer likely to be your only companions. Sue's welcome hamper is packed with local produce and there are a shop and pub in Barbon – 2.5 miles away and reached by a rarely used Roman road. The hamlet of Middleton has its own pub.
Well-behaved dogs welcome in Mill Cottage only, but not upstairs or on furniture. Broadband internet connection in all cottages. Please see owners' site for availability.
