Upton Farm Barn, Mill & Studio

Upton Farm Barn, Mill & Studio, Trebarwith, Cornwall, England

Upton Farm sits high above the sea with 180 degree views of the coastline (two fields away) - and the owners have transformed its early-Victorian outbuildings into two exceptionally comfortable holiday homes. Scrunch up a swathe of white granite driveway and enter an enclosed courtyard garden (both Mill and Barn have one) dotted with shrubs and hedges. Bedrooms – light, fresh and pristine – in both cottages are on the ground floor; living areas are on the first. Roof beams are exposed to stunning effect, views are rural and skylight windows pull in the light. There are big sofas and a wood-burner (in the Mill) and masses of space in which to sprawl, attractive coir is strewn with rugs, shelves are stocked with good books and games and well-planned kitchens are high spec (the Mill's has a super granite worktop, extra big oven and table large enough to seat guests from the Barn as well). We love this place - and you'll find that the owners, who do B&B in the farmhouse next door, are a further plus. The games room (with table tennis) is shared: a godsend in bad weather, and good news for classes or celebrations when the two barns are taken together.

Owl Barn for couples available from April 2010.
