Glanhenwye

Glanhenwye, Glanhenwye, Glasbury on Wye, Powys, Wales

Catch a glimpse of a red kite, keep an ear out for a song thrush chirruping its welcome. On leaving the main road, you enter a quiet cobbled courtyard surrounded by wonderfully solid farm buildings and mature trees - here live Alyson and Lars. After 13 years at sea, they are putting down roots in this peaceful part of the world, but haven't forgotten their nautical past. Their buildings are named after boats; take one or book up all three. Inside, exposed beams and open fires blend with a stylish, contemporary look, and acres of oak floor spread throughout open-plan living spaces. Each house is uncluttered, beautifully balanced and full of light. In 'Yellowdrama' you can unwind on a huge sofa in front of the fire (logs from the grounds). Concoct something delicious in the roomy kitchen, from enticing local provisions bought and stored for you. Upstairs: a spectacular four-poster with a generous shower behind a curved wall, a free-standing basin and big porthole windows. The two bedrooms on the ground floor are equally sleek and crisp, with oak floors and Indonesian hardwood wardrobes. Allow Alyson to advise you on exploring this exquisite Welsh countryside; if you want to stretch your legs only a little, Hay-on-Wye is a few minutes' ride.

'Jessica' & 'Margaux Rose' also available.
