The Garden Studio, Hillview Cottage, Paradise Lane, Croscombe, Wells, Somerset, England
This is a cosy cabin for two, clad inside and out in wood and smelling of pine. You're tucked in the Mendip hills, with chickens on the edge of the garden and lovely relaxed owners living next door. Catherine does B&B in her cottage – the cabin is her new venture and she's thought long and hard about what guests may like. There's a big soft bed with feather pillows and duvet, recycled Spanish rugs on new pine floors, a clever electric fire, which looks like an old French stove, comfy armchairs, books and magazines. The sitting room and bedroom are one – somehow it feels better this way - all is light and relaxed, and you can store your belongings in the wardrobe of the (separate) shower room. The French windows may be flung open on warm days, to a patio area with table, chairs and loungers and an above-ground pool (in summer) on your lawn. Make the most of the good pubs in the area, or bring some basics and whiz up a simple supper in the kitchen – it's small but has all you'll need: microwave, hob, dishwasher, washing machine. For balmy evenings there's a grass tennis court and a croquet lawn, walks lead from the door, you can stroll to Wells in an hour and a half (Catherine is a cathedral guide) and take the car to Stourhead and Bath, a short drive. A great little place to unwind.
Good for some disabled guests as all is on one ground floor level.
