Moorland View

Moorland View, North Bovey, Devon, England

It took 38 local craftsmen to restore this immaculate 18th-century thatch cottage, perched on the village green in the heart of Dartmoor's National Park. Polished oak beams and a wonderful stable brick floor run throughout, matched with sumptuous rugs, a cosy log fire to eat by and soft Farrow and Ball tones. Furniture has a French accent: in the master bedroom, an elegant white bed backed by shimmering wallpaper, overhung by a candelabra; in the bathroom, a gilt mirror, vanity washstand and scented candles exude the very essence of boudoir... No expense has been spared. The kitchen knives are Global, the smellies are Molton Brown, and there is WiFi and a wireless music system (complete with iPod docks) in every room. Wander along the river to Bovey Castle Club for a swim or a spot of pampering, or stay in for a luxurious soak in the copper slipper bath. Curl up on the window seat, or on a bench in the tiny garden, and look out over the moors – another tree is to be added there in your honour – the owner, Suzy, plants one for every week she has guests. Fantastic moorland walking, market towns with specialist shops and cafés, and the south Devon coast are on your doorstep. As our inspector put it: sensational.

Use of pool, gym, golf course and tennis courts at Bovey Castle is included in the price of your stay (20% discount on beauty treatments). Ask about in-house pamper packages: dinners, picnics and spa treatments.
