Old Manor Cottage

Old Manor Cottage, Halford, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, England

Close by the timbered Tudor Old Manor House, where Jane enthusiastically welcomes her B&B guests, sits this clematis swathed, thatched stone cottage with bright, white uneven 18th-century walls, fresh painted beams and attractive paned windows. This is a contemporary transformation of an old farm outbuilding and there's nothing old hat about it. There's a hint of Scandinavia in the well-equipped little kitchen with its glass table and stylish white scoop chairs, heated flagged floors and Shaker-style units. Find freshness too in the cosy little sitting room with red striped and white cotton armchairs, crisp floral curtains and open fire. Then up the steep stairs past a little bed tucked under a window to a pitched roof main bedroom with simple appealing cream furniture and a comfortable new bed wrapped in white cotton. Your bathroom is brand new with underfloor heating and good smellies. This is a private hideaway but in no way isolated. Walk to the village pub for supper and before you go take a turn around the delightful garden, glass in hand. Here, 10 minutes from Stratford and in the scented peace of Jane's much loved rose borders overlooking the old orchard, is the real essence of peaceful village life.
